Rebel Cops
Ex-police officers wage turn-based tactical combat against mobsters and corruption.
Rebel Cops is a turn-based tactics game released in 2019, developed by Weappy Studio and published by THQ Nordic. It is a spinoff of the games This Is the Police and This Is the Police 2. Players take control of former police officers who are battling both mobsters and a corrupt police force.
In the game, the player leads a group of ex-officers who resigned after a Russian mobster took over their rural town and its police department. The goal is to liberate the town through turn-based tactical combat against the mobsters and corrupt cops. Players can attempt to arrest criminals, with success depending on a percentage chance influenced by factors like the officer's intimidation level. Enemies who surrender are removed from the map and grant more experience points. Arresting rather than killing also earns "rebel points," which can be used to activate special abilities. When officers level up, players can customize them with abilities such as fighting back while injured or arresting enemies from a distance. Characters automatically alert each other when they are about to be spotted.
Characters do not have hit points; instead, any wound leads to death from blood loss in several rounds unless stabilized. Head shots are instantly fatal unless the character wears a helmet. Leg wounds incapacitate, arm wounds prevent retaliation, and chest wounds cause bleeding out twice as fast. Players have a limited number of saves. The game is viewed from an isometric perspective.
THQ Nordic released Rebel Cops for Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on September 17, 2019. HandyGames released it for iOS and Android on April 23, 2020.
The game received mixed reviews on Metacritic. Rock Paper Shotgun found that players lacked enough information to make decisions, making level completion repetitive and frustrating. Polygon was disappointed that the gameplay differed from its trailers, which had made the game look like Longmire; they described it as not bad but criticized its poor pacing and lack of depth. Nintendo Life praised its replayability, challenging yet easy-to-understand gameplay, and mission design, but disliked the story and the Switch version's user interface. Push Square enjoyed the challenge from the absence of hit points and scarce resources, but felt that more open missions lost this tense gameplay and became unfocused.

Lore & Background
Rebel Cops places players in control of a group of ex-police officers who quit their jobs after their rural town, including its police force, was overtaken by a Russian mobster. The officers work to free their town through turn-based tactical combat against both the mobsters and corrupt police. A key mechanic is the ability to attempt arrests, which has a percentage chance of success influenced by factors such as the officer's intimidation level. Enemies who surrender are removed from the map and grant more experience points. Arresting enemies also earns 'rebel points' used to activate special abilities. Upon leveling up, players can customize officers with special abilities, such as fighting back while injured or arresting enemies from a distance. Characters automatically warn each other when about to be spotted by suspects.
Characters do not have hit points; instead, anyone wounded dies in several rounds from blood loss unless stabilized, with head shots being instantly fatal without a helmet. Leg wounds incapacitate, arm wounds prevent retaliation, and chest wounds cause bleeding out twice as fast. Players have a limited number of saves. The game is played from an isometric point of view.
