Tru Blood

Tru Blood is the brand name of the synthetic blood at the centre of the series' premise. Japanese scientists created it two years before the show begins. Because it removed vampires' need to feed on humans to survive, it allowed them to "come out of the coffin" and reveal themselves to the world, and the series follows their struggle for equal rights and acceptance afterwards. In the later seasons, Sarah Newlin uses Tru Blood tainted with the Hepatitis V virus to kill vampires slowly.
