Background
Mort Castle wrote the Northstar series from David Schow's original script, with more gore than the film and a changed ending; it also fills in the family's backgrounds. After the 2003 remake, New Line Cinema licensed the franchise to Avatar Press, whose first stories appeared in 2005, and in 2006 the licence passed to DC Comics' Wildstorm imprint, which published new stories. Wildstorm's continuation of the remake follows Erin after her escape and the Hewitts' clash with federal agents.
