Background
The hitchhiker Pepper, whom the group picks up on the way, takes a liking to him. When Kemper goes missing, Andy goes with Erin to the Hewitt house and searches inside while she distracts Monty. Leatherface attacks him with the chainsaw, saws off his leg and hangs him on a meat hook in the basement. Erin finds him there, and after she fails to free him he begs her to end his suffering, which she does.
Leatherface
Leatherface is an intellectually disabled and disfigured serial killer who uses a chainsaw to kill his victims. He has been portrayed by multiple actors across the franchise. He is severely intellectually disabled and mentally disturbed, often using butchering tools like meat hooks. He lives with a family of cannibals who are abusive toward him, yet he follows their orders.
His name varies by film: Bubba, Jedidiah, Junior, or Leather. Unlike many horror villains, Leatherface is not sadistic but is intellectually disabled and acts under his family's control. Director Tobe Hooper described him as a 'big baby' who kills in self-defense when threatened. Leatherface is mute, making only baby-like gibberish and screams that his family understands.
In The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, he develops a crush on a victim and skins her friend's face to hide her. He apparently dies in an explosion at the end of that film but appears in the next sequel.
Grandpa Sawyer
Grandpa Sawyer appears in the original film and its sequel, portrayed by John Dugan and Ken Evert. He is a supercentenarian, a former butcher and slaughterman, and implied mass murderer. Director Tobe Hooper stated that Grandpa is kept alive by drinking the blood of his family's victims. Before the films, he worked at a slaughterhouse with unmatched skills but quit due to shame after new technology was introduced.
He settled down with Grandma and began the cannibalistic Sawyer family, possibly resorting to cannibalism to survive poverty. In the first film, the 124-year-old Grandpa is thought dead but is brought to suck the blood of captured Sally Hardesty. He later tries to kill her with a hammer but keeps dropping it, allowing her escape. In the sequel, now 137 years old, he again attempts to kill a captive with a sledgehammer, landing a minor blow.
During a chainsaw duel, he throws a hammer but hits Leatherface instead. Grandpa apparently dies when a grenade set off by Drayton explodes.
