In this timeline, the city lies in ruins following a nuclear apocalypse that wiped out most of civilization. In Terminator Genisys, Human Resistance leader John Connor launches a final offensive against Skynet in 2029. In 2029, as the Resistance is about to destroy Skynet's defence grid, Skynet makes a last effort by sending Terminators back in time to kill the Connors. Kyle Reese was sent from this specific era back to 1984 to ensure the survival of John Connor's mother, creating a causal loop essential to the Resistance's existence.
