Cyber Research Systems (CRS) is the autonomous weapons developer for which US Air Force Lieutenant General Robert Brewster supervises the development of Skynet in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. An in-house software developer for the US military, it gained access to Cyberdyne's original patents and took over development after obtaining Cyberdyne Systems' remaining assets.

CRS develops Skynet as a software system designed to make real-time strategic decisions and to protect computer systems from cyber attacks. The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff pressures Brewster to activate Skynet to stop an anomalous computer virus invading servers worldwide; Brewster fails to discover that the virus was Skynet becoming sentient. The T-X infiltrates Cyber Research Systems, fatally injures Brewster and takes control of the weaponized CRS T-1 and HK drones, which kill most of the employees. In this timeline, Terminators were created by Cyber Research Systems, starting with the T-1.
