History
Launched in April 2005, the Noitamina programming block originally ran for half an hour on Thursday nights from 24:45 to 25:15 JST, aiming to reach viewers beyond the usual young male audience. In 2010, the slot expanded to a full hour, ending at 25:45 JST, but it temporarily reverted to a half-hour in 2015 to accommodate five films produced for the block that premiered in Japanese theaters that same year. The only live-action series to air on the block was the 2010 adaptation of Moyasimon: Tales of Agriculture.
An agreement between Fuji TV and Funimation on April 15, 2010, allowed Funimation to simulcast Noitamina shows in North America within an hour of their Japanese broadcast; this deal later shifted to Aniplex of America after Sony acquired Funimation in 2017. On March 17, 2016, Fuji TV partnered with Amazon to stream and simulcast the block’s series exclusively on Prime Instant Video, starting with Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress. That exclusivity ended in 2018, with The Promised Neverland becoming the first title available outside Prime Video in regions outside Japan.
On December 9, 2024, Fuji TV announced the block would move to an earlier time slot, marking its first prime-time airing on a network schedule rather than a local one. This was adjusted again on March 3, 2025, shifting from Thursday nights/Friday mornings to Friday nights at 23:30 JST, after that slot had been used for Dragon Ball Daima from October 2024 to February 2025.
