Background

The rules exist to keep fairies and humans safe from badly worded or reckless wishes, and some stop real-world laws being broken; in the show they often keep Timmy from simply wishing a problem away, and a few exist because of him. The best known: if others find out a child has fairy godparents, the fairies are taken away forever and memories are erased. A godchild cannot use magic to win a competition, though they can use it to train. Keeping fairies secret for a year earns a 'Fairy-versary' muffin that grants one rule-free wish. Fairies are helpless against butterfly nets, and some beings, such as dragons, are immune to their magic. Making a secret, undocumented wish is the ultimate violation, as in Timmy's Secret Wish!.
