The Professor is a key antagonist in The Bourne Identity, operating under the orders of Alexander Conklin, head of the CIA black ops program Operation Treadstone. After Bourne escapes from Zurich, Conklin assigns three agents—Castel, Manheim, and the Professor—to kill him. The Professor is the last of these to confront Bourne. Under pressure from CIA deputy director Ward Abbott to handle the matter, Conklin tracks Bourne's location to the French countryside home of Marie Kreutz's half-brother Eamon and his children. Conklin sends the Professor to kill Bourne there. In the ensuing confrontation, Bourne mortally wounds the Professor. Before dying, the Professor reveals their shared connection to Treadstone, telling Bourne, "Look at what they make you give." This revelation helps Bourne piece together his own past as a Treadstone operative.
