Two years after the events in Paris, Bourne and Marie are living in exile in Goa. Kirill, a Russian Federal Security Service agent working for the oligarch Yuri Gretkov, is sent there to kill Bourne. Bourne flees with Marie by car; Kirill follows and kills her, unaware that the two had switched seats during the chase. Believing the CIA is hunting him again, Bourne sets out after those responsible, and Ward Abbott later admits that he had arranged for Bourne to be silenced in Goa.
