The Verdigris House is a high-class brothel in the red-light district of Li's capital, managed by the Madam. It is the home of the famous Three Princesses, Pairin, Meimei and Joka, and the birthplace of Maomao and her mother Fengxian.

Background
Owned by Mr. Owner but controlled by the Madam, a stingy and casually ruthless former high-ranking courtesan, with the capable head manservant Ukyou, it ranks its courtesans by ability, and the highest take the third-floor rooms. Its middle- and high-class courtesans entertain through dancing, singing, music, poetry and board games such as Go and shogi: Pairin is known for dancing, Meimei for board games and poetry, Joka for poetry and the erhu, and Fengxian for board games and singing. Luomen and later Maomao served as its apothecaries. Maomao returns there after her dismissal from the Rear Palace, until Jinshi buys out her contract; Lakan later buys Fengxian out of it, and after the Shi clan's fall Maomao cares for the boy Chou-u there.
