The Movie

The Amazing World of Gumball: The Movie! is a long-planned film based on the series. Creator Ben Bocquelet first spoke of a feature film in an interview with The Times, doubted it would be made after he left the show following season 6, then said in March 2018 that he had ideas for both a theatrical and a direct-to-video film, and series director Mic Graves confirmed in September 2018 that a script was being written. On 17 February 2021 WarnerMedia announced a television film under the working title The Amazing World of Gumball Movie, and on 21 September 2021 Cartoon Network greenlit it as The Amazing World of Gumball: The Movie!, with Bocquelet directing and executive producing.

Its story has Gumball's biggest fan find a missing episode and accidentally open a portal between the cartoon world and his own, after which he joins the Wattersons in saving Elmore from a menace out to take over the town. In August 2022 the film was dropped from HBO Max's slate to be shopped elsewhere; Bocquelet called its fate "a bit of a Schrödinger's cat question", and at the 2024 Annecy festival he said the story and script were still being revised. The season 6 cliffhanger it was meant to resolve was instead picked up by the revival's finale, "The Rewrite".
