Duke Fishron

Duke Fishron is a Hardmode boss in Terraria that can be summoned as soon as Hardmode begins, but its difficulty is comparable to a post-Golem boss.[1] Fighting Duke Fishron is not mandatory for advancing through the game, but beating him gives the player strong weapons and gear.[1] Duke Fishron has a maximum life of 60000 / 78000 / 99450 and a defense of 50, which increases to 100 when enraged.[9]

Summoning

Duke Fishron is summoned by fishing in the Ocean using a Truffle Worm as bait; reeling in the bobber spawns the boss.[2]

Second phase

When its health falls below 50%, Duke Fishron enters a second phase with increased damage and speed, reduced defense of 40, and upgraded projectile attacks including Cthulunados.[3]

Third phase

Below 15% health, Duke Fishron enters a third phase where it turns invisible, has 0 defense, and attacks only by charging after teleporting near the player.[4]

Enraged state

If the player leaves the surface Ocean area, Duke Fishron becomes enraged, dealing double damage, gaining double defense, and attacking more aggressively.[5]

Debuffs

In Expert or Master Mode, Duke Fishron has a 1/3 chance to inflict Bleeding or Feral Bite on hit, but never both at once.[6]

Despawning

Duke Fishron disappears when every player is dead or when the player he is targeting is farther than 350 tiles away.[7]

Trivia

Duke Fishron is one of only three bosses that has a corresponding minion summon weapon, the Tempest Staff.[8]
