No Trams to Lime Street
A lost 1959 play about sailors on shore leave in Liverpool.
No Trams to Lime Street is a British television play written by Alun Owen for the Armchair Theatre anthology series. Produced by ABC Weekend TV for ITV, it was broadcast on 18 October 1959. The play, set in Liverpool, follows three sailors on shore leave. It contributed to Owen being hired to write the script for The Beatles' film A Hard Day's Night, for which he received an Academy Award nomination. The original 1959 version is lost. The BBC remade the play twice: in 1965 for Theatre 625 and in 1970 for The Wednesday Play.
