Making and release

The next two series were filmed back to back, with principal photography lasting 20 weeks and wrapping on May 17.[2] Child actors from the first two series were re-cast because they had grown too old for their parts.[2] The series was produced by Mark Cumberton, with John Rice as executive producer.[2] Post-production began as soon as episode one was filmed, with delivery scheduled for June 2013.[2]

Early 2012 saw the broadcast of the show's second season.[3] The BBC announced and commissioned two spin-off series from Roy, which together created the Roy franchise.[4]

What the cited sources add

The IFTN article "'Roy' Returns For Second Series" describes Roy as the world’s first cartoon boy, aged 11, who lives in the real world.[5] The first show of the second series, 'Food, Fat, Fit', focuses on body issues as Roy is told he is not fit enough for the football team.[5] Ardmore Studios also hosted the second series of 'Moone Boy' during this time.[2] The Children's BAFTA Drama Award for 2012 was won by the second season of Roy in November 2012.[3]

A spin-off titled Little Roy, featuring an animated five-year-old boy, was broadcast on CBBC and CBeebies from 2016 to 2017.[4]
