A five-part BBC Wales drama from 2010, The Deep follows a research submarine crew, played by Minnie Driver, James Nesbitt, and Goran Visnjic, as they face a crisis deep under the Arctic ice. Simon Donald wrote the serial, which was filmed over 12 weeks near Glasgow, Scotland, and broadcast in August 2010.

Production
The BBC announced the commissioning of The Deep in July 2009. In December 2009, the involvement of Minnie Driver, James Nesbitt, and Goran Visnjic was revealed, along with the start of production at the BBC's Dumbarton studios. The 12-week shoot concluded in March 2010. Production Designer Simon Bowles created both physical and computer-generated submarine sets. Location filming took place in Ardrossan and the harbour at Irvine. Prosthetic make-up artist Linda A. Morton researched injuries by visiting a hospital burns unit and examining photographs of radiation burns.
