Synopsis
Dennis Booker, a former big-city police detective, takes a job with a Japanese company's American branch looking into suspicious insurance claims. He has a strong dislike for authority and frequently shows open contempt for the directives he gets, and he sometimes steps outside his job to assist friends or relatives. During the show's run, Katie Rich departed and Lori Petty joined the cast. Fox placed Booker as its Sunday night opener at 7/6 pm, taking over the time slot left by 21 Jump Street, which shifted to Mondays. The show failed to match its predecessor's popularity; Fox rescheduled it to 10:00 pm and eventually canceled it after one season.
Home media
The Australian Region 4 DVD set of Booker, titled The Complete Series, was released by Beyond Home Entertainment on September 17, 2008. It omits the crossover episode "Deals and Wheels pt.1," which instead appears on the fourth season set of 21 Jump Street. The set retains the original Billy Idol theme song "Hot in the City" and includes the episode "Someone Stole Lucille." On August 25, 2009, Mill Creek Entertainment put out a Region 1 DVD called Booker – Collector's Edition. Because music rights could not be secured, "Someone Stole Lucille" was left out, which is why the set was not marketed as complete. The theme song was also swapped for a generic action track titled "Hot Summer Night," as the rights to "Hot in the City" were unavailable.
