Synopsis

Set in Nutley, New Jersey, the show follows a family sitcom structure. The plot mainly deals with the struggle of raising a large group of teenagers, both financially and emotionally, as they face the fact they are no longer as adorable as they were in infancy. The home has three bedrooms, with the three boys sharing bunk beds and the two girls in another room. A double-wide beer cooler acts as the kitchen refrigerator, and a walk-in freezer is located in the basement to handle the family's huge food needs. Chris and Tad perform the theme song, "Suck or Shine."

Cast and characters

Bob Chase, played by Andy Richter, is the father who sells office cubicles and struggles to earn enough for his family. He spends most of his time trying to save money and provides parenting only occasionally, preferring to escape when possible. He believes half his children are freaks, attributing this and the large number of children to artificial insemination. Carol Chase, played by Rebecca Creskoff, is the mother who maintains the household in typical sitcom homemaker style. In one episode she attempts to return to work but is unsuccessful due to her 15-year gap in employment, so she remains a homemaker and enforces house rules. Parker Chase, played by Jake McDorman, is the popular, tall, good-looking boy who excels in academics and sports. He teases his brothers, especially Pearce, but also defends them. The male quints share a deep bond from sharing the womb. Pearce Chase, played by Johnny K. Lewis, is the curly-haired, odd quint who shares strange perspectives and no longer responds to rejection. Penny Chase, played by April Matson, is the intellectual nonconformist whose clothing and hairstyle cause her to be mistaken for a goth; she enjoys reading and sometimes feels inadequate next to Paige. Paige Chase, played by Sarah Wright, is the beautiful girl focused on her appearance; she is not the brightest but is bubbly and kind. Patton Chase, played by Ryan Pinkston, is the youngest and shortest at 4'10", a source of amusement and shame; he takes growth hormones, is girl-crazy, and uses the line "Yes I am, you likey?" which usually works but disgusts his sisters.
