Premise
The series follows Los Angeles police lieutenant Ohara, a Japanese-American who employs meditation and spirituality at his home shrine to solve crimes, avoiding guns and partners but using martial arts when needed. After a format change, Ohara was the sole returning character and was paired with conventional cop Lt. George Shaver on a task force led by Teresa Storm. In February 1988, following a friend's murder, Ohara and Shaver resigned to become private detectives.
Format changes and cancellation
After its premiere, the show failed to attract the desired audience, prompting ABC to implement several format changes. Ohara was changed from a lieutenant to a federal police officer and given a partner; later he became a more conventional cop who used a gun. The second season saw Ohara and his partner become private investigators, but these changes did not improve ratings, and the series was cancelled after the second season.
