On Metacritic, it earned a weighted score of 76 out of 100 from 9 reviews, signaling generally positive reception. Abby Robinson of Digital Spy gave the premiere three out of five stars, calling it heavily focused on plot at the cost of character depth. Lucy Mangan of The Guardian awarded four out of five, praising the drama as enjoyably dense and lightened by enough black humor. Ed Power of The Irish Times described the first episode as so grim it served as a terrible advertisement for a Belfast weekend getaway. Lauren Morris of Radio Times labeled it an unpredictable thriller bearing all the trademarks of a Jed Mercurio production.
