Production

On January 31, 2018, CBS ordered a pilot for the series, written by Tim McAuliffe and Austen Earl, who were set to executive produce with Ben Winston, Michael Rotenberg, and Jonathan Berry. Production companies involved included Fulwell 73, 3 Arts Entertainment, and CBS Television Studios. CBS ordered the pilot to series on May 9, 2018, and announced the series would premiere in fall 2018 on Mondays at 8:30 P.M. The premiere date was later set for October 1, 2018. On November 28, 2018, CBS declined to order additional episodes beyond the initial thirteen, and the timeslot was filled by the third season of Man with a Plan. The series was canceled on May 10, 2019. Damon Wayans Jr. and Felix Mallard were cast in lead roles in February 2018, with Chris Parnell and Amber Stevens West joining in March 2018. Victor Williams replaced Tim Meadows as Gerald in June 2018 after Meadows left due to a commitment to Schooled. Filming took place at Radford Studio Center in Studio City, California, with the series set in Los Angeles.
