Production
The journey to bring Arcadia Bay to the screen began in July 2016, when Square Enix, Legendary Digital Studios, and dj2 Entertainment announced a digital series adaptation of Life Is Strange, with writers being courted. The following year, dj2 Entertainment transferred the rights to Hulu. By August 2021, Shawn Mendes had signed on as an executive producer and music supervisor, with Anonymous Content joining as a production partner. The project finally received a green light at Amazon Prime Video in September 2025, with Charlie Covell taking on showrunner, writer, and executive producer duties. Production companies include Square Enix, Story Kitchen, LuckyChap Entertainment, and Amazon MGM Studios, with Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson executive producing via Story Kitchen. In March 2026, Karyn Kusama was set to direct the first two episodes and executive produce through Familystyle, alongside executive producer Jen Roskind. Additional directors are Lauren Wolkstein, Silas Howard, and Daisy von Scherler Mayer. Mackenzie Dohr was confirmed as a writer and executive producer in May 2026. That same March, Maisy Stella and Tatum Grace Hopkins were cast as Chloe Price and Max Caulfield, respectively, with the series marking Hopkins' first television role. Further cast announcements in May and June 2026 added Tom Cullen, Leisha Hailey, Raúl Castillo, Owen Teague, Billy Barratt, Emily Carey, Esther McGregor, Faly Rakotohavana, and Mia Isaac. Principal photography kicked off on June 29, 2026, in Vancouver under the working title Fender, with a scheduled wrap on October 16, 2026.
