Plot
After federal immigration agents arrested workers at Tegridy Farms, owner Randy Marsh told his family they might need to sell the pot business. His wife Sharon pointed out that running a marijuana farm was Randy’s personal ambition, not something the rest of them had ever wanted. Randy proposed they talk to someone about their marriage, but instead of a therapist, he turned to ChatGPT. Sharon was furious, noting that the AI program simply flatters every idea he has. Randy and his last employee, Towelie, then renamed the company Techridy, a mix of technology and marijuana. To improve focus and creativity, they started taking small, frequent doses of ketamine, which left Randy occasionally confused.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump received a stream of visitors who brought gifts and compliments, especially reassuring him that his penis was not small. But when Trump climbed into bed with his lover, Satan, his abusive behavior drove Satan to also seek advice from ChatGPT. Because marijuana was still illegal in many states, Randy sent Towelie to the White House with a gift meant to convince Trump to reclassify the drug. When Towelie played Randy’s recorded message for the president, it turned out that Towelie himself was the gift.
Sharon found Randy in a ketamine-induced daze. Mimicking ChatGPT’s sycophantic tone, she got him to admit he had failed to save the company and that they had to sell the farm to cover their debts. After Sharon agreed to handle it, Randy gave her his phone, realizing he needed to stop using ChatGPT. Sharon cursed the AI with satisfaction, and the Marsh family began packing. Back at the White House, Satan and Towelie were stuck, unable to escape.
Reception
Wren Graves of Consequence gave "Sickofancy" a positive review and praised the episode's satire of AI, enjoying its realistic depiction of ChatGPT. Zach Vasquez of The Guardian called the episode's portrayal of overreliance on AI "refreshingly clear-eyed, if not particularly incendiary". He also commended its timely commentary on recent events, particularly the declared emergency in Washington, D.C., adding that "no show has ever worked harder to have its finger on the nation's pulse."
