Architects
The ancient alien race that studied Kharaa on 4546B and quarantined the planet.
The Architects, also called the Precursor Race or Precursors, are an ancient and highly advanced race of cybernetic lifeforms that came to Planet 4546B about a thousand years before Subnautica. Threatened with extinction by the Kharaa bacterium, they built research facilities there to look for a cure.

Background
They had visited many worlds, Earth among them, collecting technology and relics, some of which are displayed in the Primary Containment Facility. They found a cure in the Sea Emperor Leviathan's Enzyme 42, but when a Sea Dragon damaged their Disease Research Facility the bacterium escaped, and they quarantined the planet with the Quarantine Enforcement Platform and stored the minds of those left in data hubs. By Subnautica: Below Zero only one, Al-An, is known to be alive.
