Earth, also called Sol III, is the third planet of the Sol System and the homeworld of humanity in the Star Ocean series. The Pangalactic Federation, earlier known as the Terran Alliance, was founded there, so it is the starting point of mankind's spread into the stars. Before Star Ocean: The Last Hope it appears only in cutscenes; The Last Hope shows it in more detail.

Background
In The Last Hope, the destruction of World War III has left Earth's cities and countryside barren, and the survivors have moved underground. Facing extinction, humanity unites and turns to space exploration to look for planets that can support life, which sets the series' history of space travel in motion. Series lore also names Earth as the origin of the Muah, an advanced people said to have lived on the sunken continent of Mu.
Earth is shown as a ruined world in Star Ocean: The Last Hope; in the earlier games it is only mentioned or shown in scenes.
In The Second Story, Claude C. Kenny is an officer of this Earth-founded space-faring organization when he is stranded on the undeveloped planet Expel.
