Fayt Leingod

The son of a symbological geneticist, altered by a major project in symbological genetics to gain the power of Destruction.

Fayt Leingod is the son of symbological geneticist Robert Leingod and his wife Ryoko Leingod, also a symbological geneticist. He accompanies his family on a vacation to Hyda IV, alongside the family of his childhood friend Sophia Esteed. Without warning, the planet is hit by an unprovoked attack by the Vendeeni — an alien civilization with highly advanced technology — which prompts the Pangalactic Federation to respond militarily. Both Fayt and Sophia manage to escape by a Federation starship, but are separated from their families during the evacuation. The Vendeeni attack the ship, and seeking an escape pod, Fayt finds himself separated from his family, eventually becoming stranded on Vanguard III, an "underdeveloped planet" on par with the technology of 17th Century Earth.

Lore & Background

Fayt Leingod was the product of a major project in symbological genetics, conducted by his father Robert and his wife Ryoko, alongside Clive Esteed. The project came about following the discovery of an extremely advanced structure known as a Time Gate on the planet Styx. When the explorers who found it activated it, a recorded message informed them that their species' forays into symbological genetics had angered a being called the "Creator", and that they were to face sentencing for their actions.

In response, the Federation determined the Time Gate was a link to beings from another plane of existence, referred to as "4D Space", and that the power of Symbology could be used to access it. Robert and his colleagues decided to use their offspring for a major Symbological experiment. Fayt was Symbologically altered — gaining the power of Destruction — allowing him the power to activate the Time Gate when together with Maria (Alteration) and Sophia (Connection) and access the Creator's dimension. The Vendeeni found out about the project, and sought out all three in hopes of avoiding their destruction.

He reunites with Sophia on the Moonbase, where they discover the truth about their origins as products of a symbological genetics project.

Narrative Origins

The story follows Fayt Leingod. During a family vacation to Hyda IV, an unprovoked assault by the technologically superior Vendeeni forces triggers a galactic war. Separated from his parents and childhood friend Sophia during a chaotic escape, Fayt is stranded on Vanguard III, a primitive planet resembling 16th-century Earth. While aiding locals against a criminal threat, he encounters Cliff Fittir of the anti-Federation group Quark. Despite vague assurances that their leader needs to speak with him, Fayt joins Cliff and Mirage, only for their vessel to be tracked down by Vendeeni forces, leading to a crash landing on Elicoor II.
