Scream is a supervillain from Marvel Comics, specifically appearing in Spider-Man stories. The Scream symbiote is one of five spawns created at the same time from the original Venom symbiote, and it has had four different hosts. The character debuted in *Venom: Lethal Protector* #4 (May 1993), created by David Michelinie and Ron Lim.
The first host was Donna Diego, a volunteer for the Life Foundation, a survivalist group within the U.S. government preparing for the aftermath of a Cold War nuclear holocaust. Carlton Drake experimented with symbiotes to create "super-cops" for a fallout shelter utopia, and Diego was chosen from a security force of police, soldiers, and mercenaries. On her first public outing, Scream attacked a shopping mall near Salinas, California, and fought Spider-Man. She escaped in a hovercraft back to the Life Foundation base, with Spider-Man secretly aboard. After Spider-Man freed Eddie Brock, Scream and the other guardian symbiotes—Lasher, Phage, Riot, and Agony—battled Spider-Man and Venom. Venom used an accelerated aging device on them, which seemed to age the symbiotes to dust just before the base exploded.
Scream and her "siblings" survived, saved by the Life Foundation, but later fell out with their employers and became fugitives. Scream led the group to New York City to find Venom, hoping he would teach them to control their symbiotes, but Venom refused and fought her. After Venom disappeared, Scream tried to recruit the Scarlet Spider to help find him. When he refused, she had a psychotic break and rampaged through Times Square. Venom humiliated her by tearing pieces of her symbiote off, and the Scarlet Spider saved her. She vanished again.
Undeterred, Scream gathered her siblings and broke Brock out of prison, imprisoning him in a Chicago warehouse. She again asked for his help communicating with the symbiotes. Brock refused and tried to kill them all, even without the Venom symbiote. He escaped, and soon the other sibling symbiotes were murdered one by one. Scream blamed Brock, but she was the killer. She had concluded that all symbiotes are evil and their hosts deserved to die. It was revealed that Diego was mentally ill and had heard voices before bonding with the symbiote. Brock re-bonded with Venom before Scream could kill him.
