Lore & Background

Cindy Moon is the daughter of Albert Moon Sr. and Nari Moon and the sister of Albert Moon Jr. In her universe, the same radioactive spider that bit Peter Parker also bit Cindy, granting her similar powers. She was approached by Ezekiel Sims, who trained her for six years before imprisoning her in a secure facility to protect her from the supervillain Morlun. After seven years, Spider-Man freed her, and she created a costume from her own webbing, adopting the name Silk. She and Spider-Man experienced intense sexual attraction when near each other. Many of her early stories center on her search for her family, from whom she was separated during her imprisonment.

Silk has fought a variety of enemies, including Ash King, Black Cat and her gang, Hydra, and the Goblin Nation led by the Goblin King. She has joined other Asian American superheroes in arcs celebrating Asian heritage. Her powers include superhuman strength, speed, durability, reflexes, and equilibrium, the ability to cling to surfaces, and shooting webs from her fingertips. Her 'Silk Sense' is stronger than Peter Parker's Spider-Sense, and she possesses an eidetic memory.

In the Spider-Gwen universe (Earth-65), Cindy Moon is the head of the spy organization S.I.L.K., the romantic partner of Matt Murdock/Kingpin, and the main antagonist of the Spider-Women event. In the manga Spider-Man: Fake Red, she appears as the best friend of the missing Peter Parker. On Earth-71490, her brother Albert is that universe's Silk, and Cindy becomes the symbiote entity V-Star.

Reader's Guide

Silk, as Cindy Moon, expanded the Spider-Man legacy by introducing a character with a direct connection to Peter Parker's origin, offering a fresh perspective on the spider-powered hero. Her Korean-American heritage and storylines exploring family separation and Asian American identity added diversity to Marvel's superhero lineup. She became a central figure in major crossover events like Spider-Verse and Spider-Geddon, and her own series—including The Life & Times of Cindy Moon, Sinister, and Spider-Women—established her as a standalone hero with a distinct rogues gallery. Her portrayal by Tiffany Espensen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films brought her to a wider audience, and her upcoming appearance in the animated Spider-Woman film continues her presence in the Spider-Verse franchise. Silk's significance lies in her role as a prominent female and Asian American superhero, her unique powers (such as an enhanced spider-sense and eidetic memory), and her ability to anchor multiple narrative threads across different universes and media.
