Premise
The animated series follows 10-year-old Latino twins Maya and Miguel Santos, along with their relatives and diverse friends, as they try to make a difference in their world. Maya’s good-hearted interference in the lives of those around her often creates new problems to solve. Their mother is Mexican, and their father is Puerto Rican. The show emphasizes that learning can be enjoyable and meaningful for all kids, with a particular focus on Hispanic and Latino audiences. Its core message promotes doing good for family and community, valuing shared happiness over personal gain. In certain markets, episodes conclude with live-action clips of children engaging in activities tied to the show’s themes.
Characters
Maya Santos (voiced by Candi Milo) is a sweet, gentle, and energetic Mexican and Puerto Rican girl who always includes her twin brother Miguel and friends in her adventures. When she gets an idea, she says "¡Éso es!" and her hair bobbles light up and her ponytail spins; they continue to glow until she says the phrase. She can be stubborn, ignorant, and naive, and tends to get involved in other people's business, though her ideas usually accomplish their original objective. Miguel Santos (voiced by Nika Futterman) is Maya's twin brother, more practical and sensible, who enjoys soccer and video games. He gets a bad feeling about Maya's ideas and keeps track of those that have gone wrong, but sometimes admits her idea is the best. He has a crush on a girl named Kylie. Theodore "Theo" McEwen (voiced by Jerod Mixon) is Miguel's African-American best friend and soccer buddy who often gets straight A's and is the voice of reason. Margaret "Maggie" Lee (voiced by Lucy Liu) is Maya's Chinese-American friend who is dramatic, kind, fashionable, and rarely disagrees with Maya. Christine "Chrissy" Lum (voiced by Beth Payne) is Maya's Dominican-American friend who describes herself as Afro-Dominican; she is sensitive and level-headed but sometimes gullible, and points out flaws in Maya's plans. Andrew "Andy" Arlington (voiced by Jeannie Elias) is an English-American handicapped boy born with one arm who likes soccer, basketball, and baseball, and moved from Wisconsin.
