History
The four members—Jung Dae-gwang, Jung Kwang-ho, Kim Kang-san, and Min Choong-gi—became friends upon entering high school and formed a group in their second year at Kim's suggestion. They first performed together on the sixth season of Mnet's Superstar K under the name North Incheon Nineteen. In January 2015, the quartet signed with Evermore Music and changed its name to Voisper, a portmanteau of 'voice' and 'whisper', to reflect its growth since the competition. The group's formation was announced on February 16, 2016, with a debut planned for late that month. Voisper made its first television appearance on SBS MTV's The Show on February 23, performing the debut single 'In Your Voice', which was released digitally on March 2. The second single 'Summer Cold' followed on June 17, and the third single 'Heart' preceded the first mini-album Voice + Whisper, released alongside the lead single 'Learn to Love' on November 18. In 2017, Voisper appeared seven times on Immortal Songs: Singing the Legend, winning first place with Jung Dongha on June 24 and earning its first solo win on October 28. The group released singles 'Crush on You' on July 13, 'Save As' on October 29, and contributed the soundtrack 'Let's Not Ask' to the series Two Cops on December 4. The single 'Missing U' came out on January 6, 2018, and the group held its first concert, Voisper 1st Whisper, at the Veloso venue in Hongdae, Seoul, on May 12. The first studio album Wishes was released in November 2018. Voisper disbanded on December 8, 2021, after releasing its final album The Finale.
Musical style and influences
Voisper is primarily an R&B group that has aimed for musical diversity. Its debut single 'In Your Voice' is an R&B track with a dreamlike melody, sweet piano, and powerful drum, while the ballad 'Summer Cold' pairs acoustic guitar with piano. The mini-album Voice + Whisper opens with the dance track 'On & On', which blends modern rock and electronic music. The quartet has cited Sweet Sorrow, Noel, Brown Eyed Soul, Boyz II Men, Jung Dong-ha, and Kim Bada as inspirations.
