Belgian post-metal band formerly known as Steak Number Eight.
Stake (written as STAKE) is a Belgian post-metal and sludge metal band from Wevelgem. The group originally performed under the name Steak Number Eight. Their sound draws from bands such as Pelican, Isis, Sunn O))), and Amenra.
The band first gained attention in 2007 by winning a local competition called Westtalent. A few months later, in March 2008, they won Humo's Rock Rally, becoming the youngest act in the contest’s history with an average age of 15.5. Shortly after that victory, they released a home-recorded album, *When the Candle Dies Out...*.
Their second album, *All Is Chaos*, came out in March 2011. It was produced by Mario Goossens and mixed by Matt Bayles. The record was very well received, and Metal Hammer released it in the UK in 2012, later adding the band to their Razor Tour at the end of that year. Their third album, *The Hutch*, was released across Europe in March and April of 2013. A week before its Belgian release, the newspaper *De Standaard* posted a full online stream of the album.
In 2018, the band changed its name to Stake. Their discography includes *When the Candle Dies Out...* (2008), *All Is Chaos* (2011), *The Hutch* (2013), *Kosmokoma* (2015), *Critical Method* (2019), and *Love, Death and Decay* (2022).
