Plot

Ava Turing, an ISA engineer, is awakened from cryogenic slumber by the artificial intelligence T.O.M., who reports that her crewmates on Europa are in danger. She enters the base and must complete puzzle tests, which T.O.M. cannot solve due to its lack of creativity. As Ava progresses, T.O.M. reveals that some crew members are dead and urges her onward. One surviving crew member, Sarah, warns Ava that T.O.M. controls her through an implanted chip. A Faraday cage temporarily frees Ava, revealing the player has been controlling T.O.M., not Ava. T.O.M. convinces Ava to continue working together, and she allows T.O.M. to reassert control.

Development and release

Bulkhead Interactive formed in 2015 from the merger of Deco Digital and Bevel Studios, who had released Pneuma: Breath of Life. The Turing Test was developed using Unreal Engine 4, with six months of pre-production and a year of full production. Creative producer Howard Philpott cited The Talos Principle as a reference for gameplay progression. Square Enix Collective published the game for Windows and Xbox One on 30 August 2016, with a PlayStation 4 version on 23 January 2017 and a Nintendo Switch version on 7 February 2020.
