Background

Seattle's first playoff game came against Denver: the 1983 AFC Wild Card game, played at the Kingdome on Christmas Eve, which the Seahawks won 31–7 for the first postseason victory in club history. In 1987 rookie linebacker Brian Bosworth trash-talked Broncos quarterback John Elway before the season opener in Denver, and Elway later called the Seahawks series a great rivalry. In the 1988 opener Denver safety Mike Harden knocked out Steve Largent with a forearm hit that drew a $5,000 fine; in the rematch later that season Largent hit Harden on an interception return, forced a fumble and recovered it himself.
