Background
Seattle came in with a 14–3 record as the NFC's top seed, led by a defense nicknamed the Dark Side; it was the club's fourth Super Bowl. New England, also 14–3 and the AFC's second seed, was making a record 12th appearance; the two teams had met before in Super Bowl XLIX, which the Patriots won. The Seahawks held the only points of the first three quarters, four field goals for a 12–0 lead. In the fourth quarter Seattle scored the game's first touchdown and New England answered with one of its own to make it 19–7, and New England turnovers then let Seattle add ten more points. Running back Kenneth Walker III ran for 135 yards and was named MVP, the first running back to win the award since Terrell Davis in Super Bowl XXXII. The loss made the Patriots the first team to lose six Super Bowls.
