Peter Collins
The British Ferrari driver who handed his car - and his title chance - to Juan Manuel Fangio at Monza.
Peter John Collins (6 November 1931 – 3 August 1958) was a British Formula One driver who raced from 1952 to 1958, winning three Grands Prix over seven seasons. He also claimed the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1958 with Ferrari. After winning the 1955 Targa Florio for Mercedes, Ferrari signed him, and he scored his first Grand Prix victories at the Belgian and French rounds, placing third in the drivers' championship. At the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, Collins was close to becoming Britain's first Formula One world champion but gave his car to teammate Juan Manuel Fangio. Collins died at the 1958 German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring.
