History
Broxburn reached the Scottish Junior Cup semi-final five times, most recently in 1971 when a single goal defeated them against eventual winners Cambuslang Rangers. The club won the East Region South Division in 2009–10 and earned promotion to the East Superleague two years later. They spent six seasons in the Superleague, finishing as high as fifth in their final campaign. After entering the senior pyramid for 2018–19, Broxburn won East of Scotland League Conference C but missed promotion in a round robin playoff against Penicuik Athletic and Bonnyrigg Rose.
In 2023–24 they became champions, finishing ahead of Musselburgh Athletic, and faced Dalbeattie Star in the promotion playoffs. Broxburn won 12–2 on aggregate and moved up to the Lowland Football League for 2024–25. The club gained full SFA membership in 2019, enabling entry into the 2019–20 Scottish Cup. They reached the fourth round after five wins, including victories over higher‑ranked East Stirlingshire, Cowdenbeath, and Inverurie Loco Works, before losing to Premiership side St. Mirren in Paisley; 1,600 travelling supporters filled the North Stand.
Albyn Park
Broxburn Athletic F.C. was revived in 1946 thanks to G. W. Bartaby-Pearson and a group of local business figures, who secured Albyn Park from the Earl of Buchan. Supporters helped upgrade the ground, and it officially opened in 1948 with a match between Heart of Midlothian and Rangers, drawing roughly 3,500 fans. The stadium underwent a full redevelopment in 2009–10 as part of the Broxburn United Sports Club project, including a 3G artificial pitch that was replaced in 2020.
The site was originally Albion Park, used by Broxburn F.C. in 1889. Athletic took over the lease in 1894, and after a merger in 1912, the clubs played at the sports park. Athletic returned in 1921 but folded in 1924. West Lothian Council now owns the land, with Broxburn’s lease running until 2036.
The facility also hosts Broxburn Athletic Colts and other teams, and features new changing rooms, a social club, floodlights, a large enclosure beside the changing rooms, plus grass bankings and covered terracing.
