Bonnyrigg Rose F.C.

Scottish club from Bonnyrigg, twice Scottish Junior Cup winners.

Bonnyrigg Rose Football Club, based in the town of Bonnyrigg, was founded in 1881. Known as the Rose, the team plays its home matches at New Dundas Park and wears red and white hoops. After being relegated in the 2024–25 season, they now compete in a lower division. The club has won the Scottish Junior Cup twice, in 1966 and 1978, and were runners-up in 1972.

Their 6–1 victory over Whitburn in the 1966 final is a joint record for the biggest win in that competition. During their time in the East Region Super League, Bonnyrigg won the title four times, more than any other side. In March 2018, members voted to join the senior East of Scotland Football League, part of a broader move by eastern junior clubs. They earned promotion to the Lowland League in 2019 and gained Scottish Football Association membership that same year.

In 2022, the club reached Scottish League Two for the first time, entering the Scottish Professional Football League. Shortly after, they changed their name from Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic to the simpler Bonnyrigg Rose.

Scottish Cup

Before becoming an SFA member in 2019, Bonnyrigg qualified for the senior Scottish Cup by winning the East Superleague on four occasions. Their first campaign in 2009–10 ended with a loss to Highland League club Fraserburgh in the opening tie. In 2012–13, after wins over Girvan and Stirling University, they lost to SFL Second Division side Brechin City in a third round replay. The 2016–17 run was their most successful: after beating Glasgow University, they defeated Burntisland Shipyard 14–0, the biggest win in the competition since 1984, then eliminated Highland sides Turriff United and Cove Rangers.

They upset Scottish Championship club Dumbarton after a replay to reach the Fourth Round, where they were drawn at home against cup holders Hibernian. The match was moved to Tynecastle Stadium due to expected crowds and basic facilities at New Dundas Park; Bonnyrigg lost 8–1 in front of 5,000 travelling fans. Having won the East Superleague for a record fourth time, they qualified for the 2018–19 Scottish Cup but lost 2–1 to Deveronvale in the first round.

In June 2019 the club was accepted as an SFA member, allowing automatic annual qualification. In their first Scottish Cup as a licensed team, they defeated Highland League sides Fraserburgh and Buckie Thistle, then beat Scottish League One side Montrose 2–1 at New Dundas Park while a man down. In the Fourth round they lost 0–1 late to Clyde.
