The Vampire

A fanged foe the gang meets in many series, sometimes a costume and sometimes not.

The Vampire is a monster the Mystery Inc. gang meets in several Scooby-Doo series and films. In some stories it is a person in disguise: in the Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! episode "A Gaggle of Galloping Ghosts", Count Dracula is one of the disguises of Big Bob Oakley, and in the What's New, Scooby-Doo? episode "The Vampire Strikes Back" the Fortescu Vampire is Steve and Stu Fortescu, who want to protect their castle from new people coming in.

Lore & Background

In "The Vampire Strikes Back" the Hex Girls are shooting a video at Fortescu Castle in Transylvania when an apparent vampire attacks them, and the gang helps them capture it. In Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated a vampire steals seemingly random items around Crystal Cove and is revealed to be Sheila Altoonian. In the film Scooby-Doo! Music of the Vampire, Lord Valdronya is unmasked as Vincent Van Helsing, who wanted to stage a vampire wedding to create a tourist attraction and increase sales of his books.

Reader's Guide

Not every vampire in the franchise is a costume. Count Dracula is a vampire who appears in Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School as the father of the pupil Sibella, and in Scooby-Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf as the main antagonist, who uses a spell to turn Shaggy into a werewolf so that he can compete in the Monster Road Rally. The Scooby-Doo Show episode "Vampire Bats and Scaredy Cats", first shown on September 17, 1977, takes the gang and Scooby-Dum to Great Skull Island to visit their friend Lisa Vanaugh.
