Lore & Background

The show follows the format of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!: Scooby-Doo and his companions Fred, Daphne, Velma and Shaggy travel to varying locations solving mysteries. The format is modernized, with the characters using technology that did not exist when the original series first aired. Fred is the leader and the master of making traps, which sometimes fail to work; Daphne defends herself with her fighting skills; Velma is the smartest of the gang. At his voice actor's request, Shaggy was made a vegetarian for this series.

Reader's Guide

The series marked the return of Velma and Fred as main characters for the first time since 1984's The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries. Frank Welker voices both Scooby-Doo and Fred, Grey DeLisle voices Daphne, Mindy Cohn voices Velma, and Casey Kasem returned to voice Shaggy. It is the first Scooby-Doo series in which Scooby is not voiced by Don Messick, who died in 1997, and the last in which Kasem voices Shaggy. The title song was performed by the Canadian band Simple Plan. Recurring characters include Gibby Norton, a nerd with a crush on Velma, and the Australian adventurer Melbourne O'Reilly.
