The Black Knight
A black suit of armor said to come to life, and the gang's first villain.
The Black Knight is a suit of black armor that seems to come to life, and the first villain the gang faces in Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!. In that series the Black Knight was the disguise of the museum curator Mr. Wickles, who used it to scare people away from his forgery activities.
Lore & Background
In the first episode, "What a Night for a Knight", Shaggy and Scooby-Doo find a black suit of armor in an abandoned pickup truck, on its way from England to the local museum, and the gang delivers it to the museum themselves. After learning that the archaeologist transporting the suit is missing, they search the museum at night for clues and find out that the armor is said to come to life by the light of a full moon.
Reader's Guide
In the live-action film Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed the character is called the Black Knight Ghost and is the former disguise of Jeremiah Wickles, played by Peter Boyle. Its costume is stolen from the Coolsonian together with the 10,000 Volt Ghost's costume and brought to life. The Black Knight Ghost ambushes Mystery Inc. in Wickles' house, and Daphne later uses jumper cables to take out both monsters. A Black Knight also appears beside the ghost of Merlin in The Scooby-Doo Show episode "Scared a Lot in Camelot", and in Lego Scooby-Doo! Knight Time Terror, where a Black Knight terrorizes anyone who approaches a haunted mansion in search of treasure.
