Lore & Background
Gellar was known for her portrayal of Buffy Summers on Buffy the Vampire Slayer when she played Daphne, and she returned for the sequel after that series had ended. A reviewer for The New York Times felt that her performance added a snarl of Powerpuff feminism to her character's ditzy stereotype. She and Freddie Prinze Jr., her husband, played each other's love interests as Daphne and Fred in both films.
Reader's Guide
The 2002 film was directed by Raja Gosnell and starred Freddie Prinze Jr. as Fred, Gellar as Daphne, Matthew Lillard as Shaggy and Linda Cardellini as Velma. The sequel followed in March 2004 with the same cast and director, and like the first film it was a commercial success despite a negative critical response. In the live-action television films of 2009 and 2010 Daphne was played by Kate Melton.
