Lore & Background
The estate is haunted by ghosts, including a Headless Horseman, and Scrappy has the idea to call a group of ghost exterminators called the Boo Brothers. The exterminators, Meako, Freako and Shreako, are themselves ghosts styled after the Three Stooges, and they have little success. Shaggy also has to deal with Sadie Mae Scroggins, who falls in love with him, and her shotgun-toting brother Billy Bob, whose family has an old feud with the Beauregards.
Reader's Guide
Sheriff Rufus Buzby warns the trio that the estate is haunted, and the Colonel's manservant Farquard tells them a fortune in jewels is hidden there. After finding a diamond ring and a letter from the Colonel, Shaggy, Scooby and Scrappy follow a trail of clues around the mansion and the plantation. The last clue reveals the treasure in the mansion's fireplace, and the Skull Ghost who tries to claim it is trapped beneath the pile of gold and jewels. He is unmasked as T.J. Buzby, the sheriff's greedy brother, who had been impersonating the sheriff and the other ghosts. Shaggy turns the mansion over to the Boo Brothers, and the treasure goes into the Beauregard Trust Fund for Orphans.
