Lore & Background
This film leans into that tradition by centering its plot around a collection of ghosts that requires one more to complete a set. The narrative explores themes of greed and exploitation of folklore for personal gain. The mystery highlights the enduring partnership between Shaggy and Scooby-Doo, whose fear often leads them directly into danger where clues are found.
Reader's Guide
After the gang captures the wrong suspect, the sheriff tells them to stop solving mysteries, and they hold a garage sale of their old monster costumes and the Mystery Machine. Vincent Van Ghoul contacts Daphne, Shaggy and Scooby through his crystal ball about the 13th and final ghost, and Daphne tells Fred and Velma about the 13 Ghosts adventures they missed. Travelling in Daphne's red van, the Miss-tery Machine, they are attacked by the 13th ghost, a winged demon named Asmodeus, and follow the Chest of Demons to the Himalayas, where they meet an adult Flim Flam. Asmodeus is unmasked as Mortifer Quinch, Van Ghoul's former partner, who had faked his own death and wanted to sell the chest. He is arrested by Bernie Alan, who is really an Interpol agent named Vance Linklater. Daphne then gives the leadership job back to Fred.
