Affordable Space Adventures

Affordable Space Adventures is a puzzle adventure game from NapNok Games, developed with Nifflas' Games and released on the Wii U's Nintendo eShop on April 9, 2015. Its main gameplay feature involves using the Wii U GamePad's touch screen to control a spaceship, with controls for two different engines and other systems displayed there.

In the story, the player is a customer of UExplore, a company that promises a safe, colonizable adventure on a newly discovered planet. A promotional video explains the Small Craft vehicle and the process of landing and retrieval, boasting a perfect safety record—specifically, no "recorded" accidents in twenty years. After an unexplained incident, the player wakes to find the mother ship crashed in a hostile alien environment. The Small Craft slowly repairs itself, gaining new functions at key points. The player must avoid disturbing alien "artifacts" or face fines, and searches for a functional distress beacon. All beacons found are damaged or non-functional, forcing deeper exploration. Further UExplore videos continue to emphasize safety, even noting the safety director was given an extended vacation. Eventually, the player reaches an alien installation that can briefly alter reality. The Small Craft breaches its defenses, causing a massive explosion that sends the ship back to the surface heavily damaged. Systems fail one by one until only the most basic remain. The player finally finds a working beacon in a blizzard that threatens to freeze the ship despite maximum heat. After completing a casual survey, the player is put into stasis for extraction. A post-credits scene shows the survey form (including any Miiverse drawing) emerging from an interstellar fax machine in the safety director's long-empty office, joining other unanswered calls for help.

Gameplay involves exploring the planet Spectaculon to find a way to call for evacuation. The player controls the Small Craft, a two-dimensional flying ship that interacts with its environment in limited ways. The GamePad acts as the ship's control panel, with buttons and touch-screen controls for systems like a flashlight, scanner, two engines, a mass generator, anti-gravity device, and several landing gears. It also displays environmental and ship information. The game is divided into levels with increasingly complex puzzles.
