Silverfall is an action role-playing game from the software company Monte Cristo, released for Windows. A version was later adapted for the PlayStation Portable. In 2008, an expansion called *Silverfall: Earth Awakening* came out for the Windows edition, alongside a *Silverfall: Gold Edition* that bundled the original game with that expansion.

The story begins in the Kingdom of Silverfall, under assault by an unnamed evil. The protagonist is sent to Cloudworks, a desert city aligned with technology, to find the Archmage of Silverfall. There, they discover the Archmage has been corrupted by the Shadow Mage—revealed to be the same evil threatening the kingdom. The Shadow Mage possesses the Archmage’s child and escapes in this new host.

Returning to the ruined Silverfall, the party finds the water supply tainted by undead summoned by the Shadow Mage. Gaian druids agree to purify the water, but only if the protagonist kills the Prince of the corrupt Elves to stop further attacks. The party does so. After receiving the blessed water, they return to find the king murdered and the princess kidnapped. Clues lead them to Greybay.

At the Greybay docks, the party fights to a kidnappers’ ship and kills its captain. On his body, they find directions to the Necroraider graveyard, where the princess is held. They battle through to the crypt of Iznahel, creator of the Necroraiders. After defeating Iznahel, the protagonist learns that the means to defeat the Shadow Mage lies in the mountain town of Steelight.

In Steelight, the current duke is dying. His mother asks the protagonist to find the legitimate heir—her exiled grandchild—in exchange for a stone that can save the Archmage’s child. The heir is rescued and returned. The protagonist receives the stone, but before using it, the King of Darkness arrives and kills the child. It is revealed that the King of Darkness is opening a portal in the dwarven palace. After a battle in which he is mortally wounded, he escapes through the portal to Blaize, intending to use a temple there to summon a god.

The party follows, fights to the temple, and the Avatar of the God kills the King of Darkness. The Avatar then attacks the party but is defeated. The protagonist is crowned King or Queen of Silverfall.

Reception for the PC version was mixed or average, according to 32 reviews on the aggregator Metacritic.

Lore & Background

The Kingdom of Silverfall is under attack by an unnamed evil force. The protagonist is sent to the city of Cloudworks, a technologically aligned city in a desert, to find the Archmage of Silverfall. There, the protagonist discovers the Archmage has been corrupted by the Shadow Mage, who is revealed as the same evil force attacking the kingdom. The Shadow Mage possesses the Archmage's child and flees. Returning to the ruined Silverfall, the party finds the water supply contaminated by undead summoned by the Shadow Mage. Gaian druids agree to bless the water if the protagonist kills the Prince of the corrupt Elves, which the party does. After cleansing the water, they find the king killed and the princess kidnapped. Clues lead to Greybay, where the party fights to a ship, kills its captain, and finds directions to the Necroraider graveyard. There, they defeat Iznahel, the creator of the Necroraiders, and learn the means to defeat the Shadow Mage lies in the mountain town of Steelight. In Steelight, the duke's health is failing; his mother asks the protagonist to find the legitimate heir, her exiled grandchild, in exchange for a stone to save the Archmage's child. The child is rescued, but before the stone can be used, the King of Darkness arrives and kills the child. The King of Darkness creates a portal in the dwarven palace; after a battle where he is mortally wounded, he escapes to Blaize to summon a god. The party follows, fights to the temple, and the Avatar of the God kills the King of Darkness. The Avatar then attacks the party but is defeated, and the protagonist is declared king or queen of Silverfall.
