Production

The season is part of a long-term deal between Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon and Adult Swim, confirming 70 new episodes over an unspecified number of seasons; ten aired as season four, ten as season five, leaving fifty remaining. In February 2020, Roiland announced the sixth season was underway. The second episode, "Rick: A Mort Well Lived", featured Peter Dinklage as a guest star. Writing continued over Zoom during the COVID-19 pandemic; Dan Harmon said production was "pretty far along" by November 2020, and by March 2021 they were "very late" in writing. On January 24, 2023, amid felony charges against Roiland, Adult Swim cut ties and fired him, making this his final season on the show.
