Oswell Spencer

Oswell E. Spencer is the deceased founder of the Umbrella Corporation, whose will is carried out by the former Umbrella scientist Victor Gideon in Resident Evil Requiem. Spencer's incomplete research into a bioweapon called Elpis—described as a highly contagious mind-control virus—drives the game's conflict. Gideon seeks to realize Spencer's vision, though his interpretation of Spencer's intentions is later shown to be mistaken. Spencer's ultimate goal, as revealed through recorded interviews, was not destruction but hope: he expressed regret for the damage caused by his creations and entrusted a normal adopted infant, Grace Ashcroft, with the password to Elpis, which he intended as a potent antiviral capable of neutralizing all viral weapons.
