Established in 1947 as an annual and official tournament founded and organized by the RFEF, it was a tribute to Argentine president Juan Perón and his wife Eva Perón. It was played between September and December, usually as one-match finals. The trophy was the predecessor of the current Supercopa de España, first held in 1982.

The competition was contested from 1947 to 1953. The 1947 match was not actually played until June 1948. In 1952 and 1953 the cup was awarded to Barcelona, as they had won the La Liga / Copa del Generalísimo double.

Did You Know?

• The Copa Eva Duarte was preceded by earlier unofficial tournaments: the Copa de Campeones (1940) and the Copa de Oro Argentina (1945), each played only once.
• The Copa Presidente FEF was an official tournament in 1941, but its decisive match was delayed until September 1947.
• Real Madrid won one title in the Copa Eva Duarte (1947–48), not five as sometimes claimed.
