The 2024 FIFA Intercontinental Cup was the first edition of a FIFA-organised tournament bringing together the club champions from each of the six continental confederations. Real Madrid qualified directly for the final as winners of the 2023–24 UEFA Champions League. Pachuca advanced as winners of the play-off match, known as the FIFA Challenger Cup, played on 14 December 2024. The final was played at Lusail Stadium in Lusail, Qatar, on 18 December 2024. Real Madrid won 3–0, claiming the inaugural FIFA Intercontinental Cup, their sixth FIFA trophy and ninth club world championship title.

In the 37th minute, Kylian Mbappé got the opening goal of the match with a low finish from close range after a run and cut-back from the left by Vinícius Júnior. In the 53rd minute, Rodrygo made it 2-0 with a right foot finish to the right corner of the net from the edge of the penalty area. Real Madrid were awarded a penalty in the 84th minute when Lucas Vázquez was tripped in the area by Oussama Idrissi. Vinícius Júnior scored the penalty with a low shot to the left under goalkeeper Carlos Moreno who got a hand on it but couldn't keep it out. The 3-0 victory gave Real Madrid the inaugural FIFA Intercontinental Cup.
