Juventus was founded as Sport-Club Juventus in late 1897 by students from the Massimo d'Azeglio Lyceum school in Turin. The club was renamed Foot-Ball Club Juventus in 1899. They won their first Italian championship in 1905. The club adopted its famous black-and-white striped shirts, inspired by English side Notts County, replacing its original pink and black colours. In 1923, Edoardo Agnelli became club president. During the 1930s, Juventus became Italy's first major professional club and won five consecutive league titles between 1931 and 1935. Under Giovanni Trapattoni between the late 1970s and mid-1980s, Juventus won six league titles and became the first club to win all three major UEFA competitions. Under Marcello Lippi in the 1990s, Juventus won five league titles and the 1996 Champions League. Between 2012 and 2020, Juventus won a record nine consecutive Serie A titles.
